First Impressions Matter

Here are some tips to help you sell your home
Whether you're selling your home, buying a new home or just hosting a party, I've found that when someone walks through your door there is a first impression one gets; similar to meeting someone new for the first time. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression (why its called the first impression) . I've complied a few things that I hope you find some value in provide you with some quick tips to make that great first impression!

If you were to sell your home right this second, are you prepared for buyers and agents to be walking through your door? Not many homes are already picture perfect when one makes the decision to put their home on the market. Your home might need anywhere from some minor touch-up or major renovations. Let's tackle one thing at a time and start with some things you can easily do to put your home's best foot forward.
Much of the time buyers make a connection to your home the moment they walk in, good or bad that's when it happens. Don't rely on buyers to use their imagination too see your homes potential. Let's focus on three key areas today to catch the eye and get your home sold!
THE EXTERIOR
Curb appeal—CLEARING trash from the street curb to your front door, removing oil stains in the driveway and repairing cracks and broken driveway pieces can do a lot for the drive up impression. If you have weeds growing up through the drive way, get those suckers out of there—TRIMMING shrubs that are close to widows will make rooms look brighter and show that you care about the place you call home. CUTTING your grass, weeding flower beds (adding some mulch) and pruning any dead trees that might be blocking your yard are pretty easy and most of the time can be handled by yourself. PETS–if you have pets, you know what to do—scoop the poop! WEATHER—If it's still wet winter weather, make sure you have your drive and walkway shoveled, and toss some ice melt so no one falls; that could really suck for anyone who doesn't like falling in cold wet dirty water or ice. Oh, one more thing— WINDOWS—make those shine and sparkle.
INTERIOR
Clutter can be a huge turn off even if your home is clean. Organizing all of your "junk stuff" and moving them to one place is not only helpful for impressions but likely for your peace of mind!
You'll want to clean your home in detail, which means maybe you need a cleaning service to come in (Snow&Honey does this complimentary in our listing package) and gives your home a deep clean so when a buyer goes into your bathroom they feel comfortable. The idea is to make your home feel as warm and as inviting as you can so others feel that when they're touring your place.
Do you have squeaky doors, noisy pipes, squeaky or loose floorboards? Easy to make some fixes here. Extension cords everywhere? NOPE. Make sure your outlets and wall plates are on point and touch up any paint that might need touching up. Does your home smell musty, damp , like pets or smoke? If it does there are a lot of things you can do to brighten up the smells in your place, Essential oils, coffee or something baking in the oven can be helpful as well as that deep home clean with natural products to give your home a nice touch. If you have old carpet, having them steam cleaned can be very helpful.
ENTRYWAY
Entryway and kitchen are areas that you 1, decompress and 2, talk with your agent about the home. Most of the time with my client, the kitchen is a discussion zone, so a clean uncluttered kitchen makes it easier to stay and talk. Also, do you have a designated space to keep marketing information about you home for buyers to browse. In your entry way having it as clear and bright as possible really does add calmness and makes buyers feel welcome.
There's so much more but due to read time I will keep it short and sweet.
Quick tips:
  • - Polish floors
  • - Clean carpet and rugs
  • - Clean windows and blinds
  • - Eliminate clutter by putting this in your storage areas
  • - Empty all trash cans
  • - Keep furniture to a minimum; buyers want to be able to see how their furniture will fit in the home.
  • - If you have a dining room—have it set beautifully
  • - Fresh Fruit in the kitchen
  • - Clear countertops, fridge, microwave, stove and all other appliances
  • - Kitchen sink? Make that sink shine!
  • - Bathrooms—clean and clear of personal effects (keep the toilet seat down). Fresh clean towels add a nice touch
  • - Clean your bathroom like nobodies business
  • - Bedrooms—organize, remove furniture not necessary, make sure your closets are clean and your clothes are organized. Grab a new comforter that brightens the room
  • - Your laundry room should also be clean organized and smell like fresh laundry.
So this is the short version of making a first impression. If you require staging, cleaning and preparation help, your agent should be able to direct you to the right people.
